Pacific Harbors Council 2010 National Jamboree This is the official website of the Pacific Harbors Council, Tacoma, WA BSA 2010 National Jamboree Contingent.
At dawn on July 26, 2010, dew on the empty fields shimmers in the growing daylight. And then … here they come! By noon, throngs of Scouts are carrying gear and tents, and gateways begin to emerge from the empty ground.
By dusk, the landscape has been transformed into a bustling city of 18,000 tents, 3,600 patrol kitchens and 43,000 Scouts and leaders. This transformation occurs in mere hours, making Jamboree City the fastest growing city in Virginia, if not the world.
The Pacific Harbors contingent from the Tacoma, South Puget Sound area was made up of three Jamboree Troops: Troop 727, led by Scoutmaster Kim Gorder, Troop 728, led by Scoutmaster John Ohlson, and Troop 729, led by Scoutmaster Dennis Staples.
Each of the three troops has 30 boys, four patrols, and three Assistant Scoutmasters.
The cost for this year's Jamboree trip was $3200.00.
This was a once in a lifetime event for most Scouts, as there'll never be another 100 year anniversary Jamboree, and this one outdid all Jamborees that came before it.
We are now looking ahead to the 2013 Jamboree at the Bechtel Summit National Scout Reserve in West Virginia. See you there!
